A member of Ghat municipal council, Jamal Sueliman, and his wife were abducted and held for several hours yesterday until the gunmen involved were sure that the couple’s 4X4 vehicle had reached Obari.
According to Suleiman, he and his wife were stopped at one o’clock on Sunday night by six men as they returned to their home in the village of Tahala, 60 kilometres north of Ghat.
They were taken to an unknown location and held there for four hours until their abductors were phoned and told that the car had arrived in Obari.
It was the second time that there was an attempt to steal the vehicle. Two months ago, thieves tried to make off with it, but could not start it.
