Tunis, 18 May 2017:
Spain has appointed a new ambassador to Libya. He is Francisco de Miguel Alvarez, and replaces José Antonio Bordallo Huidobro who has been appointed Spanish ambassador to Oman.
Born in 1958, the new ambassador is no stranger to Libya, having started his diplomatic career serving at the Spanish embassy in Tripoli. He has also served in Helsinki, Mexico City and Belgrade. Prior to the new appointment, he was deputy head of the Spanish foreign ministry’s international cooperation office countering terrorism, drugs and organised crime.
De Miguel is expected to take up his post next month. Like his predecessor, he will be based in Tunis for the moment.
