Tunis, 7 February 2017:
A delegation of Italian civil aviation officials was in Tripoli yesterday to look at security at Mitiga airport. This included an assessment of what is needed in terms of training and equipment as well as of areas for future cooperation.
Accompanying the delegation from ENAC, the Italian Authority for Civil Aviation, were officials from the Italian interior ministry. The talks in Tripoli were held with transport minister Milad Matouk.
On Friday, a delegation from ENAV, Italy’s air navigation services provider, was also in Tripoli. Last July, it signed an agreement to restart and develop air navigation services in Libya.
Yesterday’s assessment of security at Mitiga follows speculation that direct flights from Rome to Tripoli will start again. It would happen soon, Libyan officials say they have been told by Italian diplomats.
