Tunis, 13 May 2016:

Thirteen Misratan fighters wounded in fighting this week were airlifted to Italy today for treatment . . .[restrict]there. They will be treated at Italy’s Celio Militrary Hospital in Rome. The were wounded in fighting against gunmen from the so-called Islamic State (IS).

According to an Italian official who confirmed the figure (Libyan social media had put it at 17), the move followed a direct request from the Presidency Council to the Italian government to treat the men.

This is not the first time Italy has taken wounded Libyans for treatment in Italy. In January 2015 15 were taken to Italy  following an attack in Zliten. In November 2012, 24 Libyans wounded in fighting in Bani Walid were flown for treatment in Rome. [/restrict]
