Tunis, 1 September 2016:
An Italian Air Force Hercules C-130 landed today in Misrata with a new consignment of medicine and health supplies for the city’s hospital and hospitals in Beni Walid and Harawa. All three are among the hardest hit by the ongoing fight against the so-called Islamic State (IS) in Sirte.
Consisting of more than five tons of supplies to ensure basic medical care for 10,000 people over the next three months and specific treatment to 100 people injured in the fighting against IS, it is the fourth shipment in recent months organised by the Italian Cooperation, part of the Italian foreign ministry.
According to the Italians, the supplies were requested by the Government of National Accord. It is part of a €2.5-million Italian government aid package designed to support the most vulnerable elements of Libyan society.
