Tripoli, 18 February 2016:
Ali Gatrani, who suspended his membership of the Presidency Council and along with Omar Aswad did . . .[restrict]not sign the announcement of the new unity government earlier this week, has claimed that the Muslim Brotherhood is manipulating the Council.
Speaking in Cairo today, he said there was a Brotherhood conspiracy in the Council against the Libya National Army (LNA). He accused two other members – Mohamed Ammari and Ahmed Maetig – of orchestrating the plot. That had become clear, he claimed, during and the initial hearings stage, he said.
The House of Representatives would not support the proposed government, he claimed, and not only would it fail but so too would the Council.
The LNA was a “red line”, Gatrani, a close ally of General Khalifa Hafter, insisted.
Ammari has never attempted to hide his sympathies for the Brotherhood. There is no evidence, however, that Maetig is of the same mind. Accusations that he is a Britherhood supporter tend to be thrown in by those opposed to him on other grounds, often simply because he is from Misrata. [/restrict]
