Tripoli, 27 November 2015:
The head of the Tripoli office of the religious endowments ministry, Mohamed Atkitek, has been released . . .[restrict]by the capital’s Rada (deterrence) forces according to a ministry statement. It said that he was freed at 4am this morning and was in good health.
He was grabbed from his office two days ago and questioning about his organisation’s relationship with the Islamic State (IS) organisation. The arrest served to fracture even further the various factions in the city, with Sheikh Sadik Ghariani labelling those who arrested Atkitek as criminals and demanding Rada sack them.
Itself seen as a strongly Islamist organisation, Rada is investigating possible support to IS from the ministry. [/restrict]
