Tripoli, 10 April 2015:
What appears to be the clearest threat yet of individuals sanctions against those opposing the . . .[restrict]UNSMIL peace process has been made by the EU foreign policy chief.
Federica Morgherini today warned: “Those who continue to undermine the talks will be identified by the international community and held accountable for their actions”.
She said that all groups in Libya should not do anything to increase tensions at a time when the participants in the political dialogue had reached a decisive stage.
Morgherini welcomed the resumption of the dialogue “in the coming days” as an essential step toward a deal for a national unity government and the end of fighting in the country.
“ I call upon all participants to negotiate in good faith and with a spirit of compromise and reconciliation” she said.
Morgherini repeated the EU pledge to support the NUG as soon as it was created. She said the EU foreign affairs council, which next meets on 20 April, would be looking at concrete ways to support the new Libyan authorities. [/restrict]
