During its official visit to the United States, the Tripoli Libyan government delegation held a meeting with officials of the US Department of Energy in Washington DC to discuss ways to develop the oil and gas sector in Libya and enhance cooperation in strategic energy projects.
Trans-Saharan Gas Line project (Nigeria-Niger-Libya) to reach European markets
The meeting discussed the development of the oil and gas sector in Libya, and plans to raise production efficiency, with a focus on developing gas production and promoting regional energy interconnection projects, foremost of which is the Trans-Saharan Gas Line project (Nigeria-Niger-Libya) to reach European markets.
The Libyan side also reviewed the sector’s development programmes within the financial framework adopted in the Unified National Budget, and the opportunities it provides to enhance sustainability, raise production efficiency, and improve operational performance.
The two sides discussed ways to enhance technical and investment cooperation in the energy sector, to contribute to supporting the stability of this vital sector in Libya, and expanding the horizons of partnership with the United States in strategic projects with a regional and international dimension.
During the meeting, the Libyan side included the Ministers of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdel Sadig, Transport Minister, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, Economy and Trade Minister, Suhail Abu Shiha, the Head of the Executive Team for the PM’s Initiatives and Strategic Projects, Mustafa Al-Mana, the Chairman of the Libyan Investment Authority (LIA), Ali Mahmoud, and the Director General of the National Mining Corporation Faraj Al-Shandouli.
The U.S. side was represented during the meeting by the Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Energy, Carl Coe, and the U.S. Department of Energy’s Senior Advisor, Andy Rapp.
