Malta, 1 February 2015:
A family member has confirmed to Libya Herald that NOC executive Samir Kamal was released today.
‘’He is well, but of course shaken up’’, a family member told Libya Herald earlier today. ‘’The reasons for for his kidnapping are unclear and the people responsible are still unknown’’, the family member added.
Samir Kamal, a top NOC executive heading the Planning Department and representing Libya at OPEC was grabbed by masked gunmen as he was leaving his NOC office in Tripoli on Thursday 15 January.
It is still unclear where he was kept during his kidnapping nor is it known if the kidnappers had demanded a ransom.
There have been a series of kidnappings in Tripoli and in Libya in general since the breakdown of the law enforcement agencies and wide distribution of arms in after the 2011 revolution. [/restrict]
