By Libya Herald staff.

22 December 2014:

Libyan Defence Minister Masoud Erhuma has held talks in Amman with the head of Jordan’s Joint . . .[restrict]Chiefs of Staff, Lieutenant General Mashaal Zabin, on increased cooperation between the two counties’ armed forces. Also at the meeting was the new Libyan ambassador in Amman, Ezzedin Arruz.

Erhuma arrived yesterday in Amman for a two-day visit.

The talks follow Jordan’s refusal to allow a delegation from the Hassi “government” in Tripoli to attend last Monday’s meeting of Arab housing ministers in Amman and its declaration of Hassi’s “foreign minister” and former Libyan ambassador in Amman Mohammed Agheirani as person non grata.

There are also unconfirmed reports that retired General Khalifa Hafter who heads Operation Dignity was in Jordan last Tuesday for talks with Jordanian, Saudi and Emirati defence and intelligence officials on support for Operation Dignity in the fight against Ansar Al-Sharia in Benghazi. According to online newspaper Rai Al-Youm, the Jordanians are now acting as military consultants for Operation Dignity in Benghazi.

If true, the latter meeting suggests that Jordan has decided to take an active role in supporting the Thinni government, the HoR and Operation Dignity against both Libya Dawn in the west and Ansar in the east. [/restrict]
