Benghazi, 19 October 2014:
The director of the National Commission for Relief and Support for Displaced People in Libya, . . .[restrict]Omar Musaib Almsheeti, was found dead this morning in Benghazi’s Hawari district five days after he had been kidnapped from outside his home in Gwarsha. He had been shot in the head.
The murder of Almsheeti, who is reported to have recently accused officials of Benghazi Municipal Council of misappropriating funds for displaced people in the city, has shocked and angered local residents. It is being blamed on Islamist militants.
Other social activists in Benghazi have condemned the killing, describing him as a courageous humanitarian who had helped others not just in Benghazi or even Libya but in Palestine, Sudan and Syria. His slaying, they said, was a great loss to the city. [/restrict]
