Tripoli, 7 July 2014:
Two of the three Europeans reported kidnapped in Zuwara on Saturday have been freed. Petar Matic, . . .[restrict]from Bosnia, and 29-year-old Macedonian Miljazim Gafuri (also called Emilio Gafuri) were found this morning. However, their Italian colleague, Marco Vallisa, 53, is still missing.
The news was confirmed by the Italian Foreign Minister as well as by the Macedonian and Bosnian foreign ministries. The Bosnian Ambassador is reported to have spoken by phone with Matic, who is said to be in good mental and physical form.
The Italian Foreign Ministry has said that it would continue “all activities, along with other state organsiations to arrive as soon as possible at a successful conclusion of the situation concerning our compatriot”.
Italian Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini has called for “maximum restraint” on the case. “We’re gathering all the information on the release of two technicians and we are assessing the full impact of this news,” she has been quoted saying.
The three have been working with Italian construction company Piacentini Costruzioni on Zuwara’s port development.
