Benghazi, 5 July 2014:
A Saiqa Special Forces intelligence officer was killed in Benghazi today and . . .[restrict]an infant child wounded after a bomb attached to their car exploded in the city’s Istiqlal Street (formerly Jamal Abdul Nasser Street).
Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC) has identified the officer as Hassan Buzgaya. Hassan is the brother of Murad Buzgaya, a member of the 1st Infantry Battalion, who was also killed by an explosive device attached to his car in March.
It is not known whether the two year old child who received shrapnel wounds and burns in the blast today was the son of Hassan or Murad. BMC has said the infant is in a stable condition and receiving treatment for his injuries.
Hassan Buzgaya’s death was reportedly caused by an improvised plastic explosive device, a source at BMC said. The identities of his assailants are unknown.
Meanwhile this evening, bomb disposal experts made safe 15 bags of explosives found in a vehicle at a car dump in the city’s Kuwaifiya district. According to a security source each bag contained around six kilos of explosives.
