Tripoli, 15 April 2014:
General Electric Company of Libya (GECOL) workers protested outside their headquarters in Tripoli on . . .[restrict]Monday over deteriorating security conditions for staff.
GECOL spokesman Lotfi Ghoma told the Libya Herald that the protesters were calling on the Ministries of Interior and of Defence to provide better security for staff in the field and at their places of work.
He said the demonstrations had been sparked by yet another attack on a GECOL staff member, this tim engineer Mahfoud Garera who had been targeted by gunmen on the road between the Jidayem forest and Zawia.
Ghoma said Garera’s survival had been “miraculous” although he did not provide details of what happened.
He added that in another security breach four GECOL vehicles had been stolen from an industrial area in Tajoura on Friday. [/restrict]
