30 applications to head Central Bank of Libya

Tripoli, 3 September 2013:

Thirty candidates have been nominated for the governorship and deputy governorship of the Central Bank of Libya.  Among those proposed as governor are Ali Tarhouni, the economy minister in the first post revolution administration led by Mahmoud Jebril under the National Transitional Council.

“Sixteen candidates are competing for the governor position and 14 for the deputy position,” Congress Finance Committee member Suaad Qdairi told the Libya Herald.

She said that a shortlist of three candidates for each of the two posts would be drawn up by the committee. It would start meeting them from tomorrow. The final appointment would be announced next week.

The committee had determined basic legal standards and as well as a number of additional ones, Qdairi said, explaining that candidates should have a Masters Degree in economics or financial management, banking experience of not less than 25 years and “a deep understanding of the banking business to meet the basic standards”.

Candidates should not have foreign nationality, she stressed. They should also be well versed in both international banking business and Islamic banking practice.

She claimed that the decision to replace the current governor and his deputy was because financial and administrative corruption.

  3. Mohamed Mosadeq Al-Alaqi
  4. Said Mohmed Al-Attrash
  5. Abdulfatah Abdulsalam Bu Habbail
  6. Mohassen Ali Eddraija
  7. Ali Mohamed Al-Majbari
  8. Jamal Al-Tayab Abdulmalek (Governor of the Commercial and Development Bank)
  9. Ahmed Mohamed Rajab
  10. Ibrahim Omar Al-Haddad
  11. Mostafa Saleh Al-Saidi
  12. Omar Abdulnabi Omar Belqasem
  13. Mahmoud Al-Hadi Ehmouda
  14. Al-Mabrouk Mohamed Al-Zawi
  15. Ali Tarhouni (Economy Minister under the NTC)
  16. Abdulhameed Abdulkareem Al-Sheikhi

The candidates for the new CBL deputy are:

  1. Mohamed Younes Al-Warrfli
  2. Ahmed Abdulsalam Al-Shukri
  3. Al-Mabrouk Al-Shebani
