The former president of the General National Congress, Mohamed Magarief, was honoured in Washington tonight.
The SAIS Center for . . .[restrict]Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University gave Magarief the Mediterranean Leadership Award in recognition of his contribution to strengthening peace and democratic development in the Mediterranean area.
The award took place at the opening of the first Transatlantic Economic Forum dedicated to boost cooperation between the United States, Southeast Europe and North Africa.
The award was accepted on Magarief’s behalf by Fathi Nuah, an adviser to the former head of Congress.
At the opening ceremony, more than 250 businesspeople from the US, North Africa, Southeast Europe and Turkey, joined with US government officials and foreign ambassadors in Washington.
The focus of the two working days of the forum is on business cooperation between the US, Southeast Europe and Maghreb countries.
