Sebha Sufi shrine attacked

The Shrine

Tripoli, 10 May 2103:

The Hamid Hudairi tomb in Sebha

The Hamid Hudairi Sufi shrine in Sebha has been extensively damaged as a result of a rocket during . . .[restrict]the early morning on Thursday.

The building was reportedly hit by two RPGs.

According to a local Sebha resident who lives nearby, it is the second time the shrine has been hit. “It was attacked in February but was then repaired,” he said.

It is unclear who is responsible.  Elsewhere in Libya, the destruction of Sufi shrines has been largely the work of militant Salafists. They were believed to be behind the attack on the Al-Andalusi mausoleum in Tajoura outside Tripoli a month ago. It was also extensively damaged in RPG fire.
