Sirte, 13 March, 2013:
Dozens of protestors in Sirte today, Wednesday, called for the leader of the town council, Ali Dou Labaz, . . .[restrict]to be sacked. They demanded a replacement to be elected, it has been reported by the Libyan news agency, LANA.
They were complaining about the lack of progress in the town. However, a council meeting which was also attended by the Chairman of Sirte Military Council and head of of local association of revolutionaries, confirmed that Labaz would remain in post until a entire new Sirte council was elected.
This is due to happen when the proposed Local Government Law comes into effect. It has still to be approved by Congress.
Meanwhile it has been reported that yesterday 78 Eritreans were caught in Sirte by members of the Zawia Martyrs Battalion. According to a battalion officer, the migrants, who included five women, had been granted refugee status in Sudan. However, they had then travelled up from the Sudanese border to Benghazi and were heading to Tripoli, paying a Libyan truck driver to take them to the capital.
The driver had been arrested and they would be departed, the officer said.
