Tripoli, 3 December:
Early last month, two young men were ruthlessly murdered after refusing to hand over car keys to . . .[restrict]armed assailants intent on stealing a Toyota Crown from the premises of a farm in Al Qawarishah area near central Benghazi.
The victims were identified as Ahmed Milad Al-Shukmak and Mohammed Ali Omar, found dead with fatal gunshot wounds on 4 November.
The Benghazi Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested four men following an investigation into the murders. The case has now been referred to the public prosecutors office on charges of homicide and armed robbery.
The public prosecutors office and CID collaborated to apprehend the alleged killers in a timely manner. Accordingly, an investigative team was set up to collect information and interview witnesses, who recounted seeing four individuals travelling in a Toyota Camry, wearing black masks and armed with rifles, believed to be Kalashnikovs.
The CID was able to identify the owner of the vehicle, a felon, who was previously charged with the murder of a Moroccan woman, and the abduction of an Egyptian woman. The man identified by his initial, was out of prison at the time of the crime, and is accused of being one the shooters of Al-Shukmak and Omar.
This breakthrough aided the team in locating the other alleged perpetrators and lead to an ambush of their hideaway, where a handgun, Kalashnikov and bullet rounds were found, as well as black face masks and the vehicle believed to have been used by the assailants.
The owner of the Toyota Camry confessed to the crimes and divulged details implicating two of the perpetrators in the shooting. The assailants, who are only identified by their initials, also confessed to the crimes and corroborated the story, that they only intended to steal the vehicle but after the car keys were not produced, shot the young men.
