Tripoli, 25 August:

A demonstration took place on Thursday morning outside the headquarters of the General National Congress (GNC) at Ghabat An-Nasr . . .[restrict]in Tripoli. The protestors, members of various civil society groups, were airing their concerns about the security situation in the country, in light of the recent bombings in Tripoli.

They called for the GNC to open a public enquiry into the way security was handled by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of the Interior under the Transitional Government. They also suggested an emergency session of the council to discuss solutions to Libya’s current security problem.

The GNC held a session on Thursday morning, after its members returned from their Eid holiday. It was reported that some of the protestors managed to gain entry to the building during the meeting. [/restrict]
