Benghazi, 16 December 2014:
Despite the damage from a missile strike to one of Benghazi’s main wholesale markets, there has . . .[restrict]only been a slight rise in prices for non-fresh foods and consumables.
The Soukh Arab market near the Al-Noran hotel was hit by a rocket last week, as part of a seemingly random firing programme by Islamist militias, clinging on in their remaining positions in the city. The resulting blaze destroyed almost a quarter of the merchants’ shops before the fire brigade could extinguish it.
However as the clean-up continues, traders have reopened for business. Though a few supermarkets in the city have run low on stocks, there seem to be little in the way of shortages in most stores.
