Tripoli, 21 May 2016:
Italy is continuing to provide a badly-needed flow medical aid with shipments arriving in the . . .[restrict]last 48 hours in Benghazi and Ubari.
The latest delivery was brought to Tripoli from where a Libyan Airlines cargo plane flew it on to Labraq. Most of the aid will then be trucked to Benghazi.
The Italian government says these medical supplies should be sufficient to treat 20,000 patients in the city for the next three months.
The first consignment of drugs and consumables followed arrived with Italian foreign minister Paolo Gentiloni when he came to Tripoli on 2 April. At that time, he promised prime minister-designate Faiez Serraj that Italy would deliver €2.4 million of medical assistance. That first delivery was taken by Tripoli hospitals.
Menawhile Misrata hospital has said that it also received a medical aid shipment yesterday.
The aid sent to Ubari was particularly important. The hospital in the town has been without most medications and basic supplies for months and many of its professional staff have left. [/restrict]
