Tobruk Municipal Council has called on to the House of Representatives (HoR) to help find a quick . . .[restrict]solution to the water crisis in the town.
According to Mayor Al-Nagi Maziq Abubaker, Tobruk desalination plant is failing because it has not received proper maintenance in 12 years. There were many cracks in the boilers, he said, which had caused a significant decrease in the plant’s output. It was also extremely inefficient, wasting a great deal of energy.
A meeting, attended by members of the municipal council, managers from the steam station, and various businessmen, was held last week to discuss ways to increase water production until a new plant is built.
“We have a number of proposals to submit that will aid companies as they submit bids for the construction of the new plant,” said head of the Governing Council of the Libyan International Business Holding Company, Khairi Gazoy.
Gazoy went on to say that the goal was that the new plant would produce about 100,000 cubic metres of water per day, about three times the current output of the existing plant. [/restrict]
