Tripoli, 20 March 2013:

A second UK Information and Communications Technology (ICT) trade delegation will be in Tripoli next week, linking up . . .[restrict]nine UK-based technology companies with Libyan officials and senior business managers.

Organised by UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) and Intellect, an association representing the UK’s technology sector, this second visit is a follow-up to last year’s ICT trade delegation. Technology specialist adviser with UKTI, Nitin Dahad, said that last year’s visit was warmly-received.

“It appears that there may be requirements in Libya for technology know-how and skills-training for everything from network architecture and e-government to regulatory law and policy,” said Dahad.

“We are sure there will be much to learn from the UK’s experience in deploying ICT for advanced public and private services, and we hope the mission will go some way towards building appropriate partnerships between UK and Libyan companies and organisations,” he added.

Intellect said that the ICT sector was beginning to bloom in the new Libya with the rapid development of the private sector along with the upgrade and expansion of the country’s telecoms infrastructure.

“With increased internet penetration, introducing new technology is essential to the development plans across all core sectors in Libya,” it said. “From defence systems to hospital management, from education to E-government, Libya’s progress has been constrained by antiquated systems which are in need of a major overhaul.”

Working in partnership with Libyan organisations, international companies have an important role to play in this core growth sector in Libya, Intellect said, “to provide new technologies, practices, training and job opportunities for Libya’s young population.”

The delegation will be in Tripoli 24-28 March, and there will be a Business to Business (B2B) Networking Session from 15:00 – 18:00 on 26 March, at the Thobacts Hotel.

If you are interested in attending the business networking session, please contact Taha Elghuel: [email protected] (091 678 37 55).
