Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

The Ministry of Economy and Trade reminded business owners and service providers today of the need to abide by the provisions of its Decree No. (660) of 2022 and (508) of 2022 on regulating the supply of goods, products and services to citizens.‎

‎The decrees confirm:‎

‎- The need to display goods and products clearly and systematically‎

‎- The obligation to advertise prices visibly to the consumer‎

– The prohibition of non-Libyans of practicing certain trades

‎The Ministry called on all to ‎immediately comply with the legislation regulating commercial activity‎ and called for the correction of the situation of violators.

‎The Ministry confirmed that the competent regulatory authorities will take the necessary legal measures against anyone who violates the provisions of this decree.

The reminder by the Ministry comes as consumer prices skyrocket and the general public complain of profiteering by unscrupulous traders. Besides products imported using hard currency, complaints have also focused on locally produced items, including vegetables, that should not be affected by the foreign exchange rate of the dollar.

The Ministry reminded traders of the need to display prices – a practice that is rarely followed by vegetable traders – to enable the council guards to punish transgressors.
