The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Public Prosecutor’s Office reviewed information from the Special Tasks Department regarding the importation of boats used to transport migrants from the shores of Garabulli, Zuwara, and Zawiya to the northern Mediterranean. The Public Prosecutor’s Office oversaw a search that enabled the Special Tasks Department to seize boats loaded onto fifty-nine shipping containers arriving at the port of Misrata.
Two members of the gang were apprehended and confessed to importing two hundred boats that have been repeatedly used to smuggle illegal migrants since 2023. The investigator ordered the two suspects to be detained pending further investigation and issued arrest warrants for the remaining individuals involved in the crimes under investigation.
