Director General of Italian Civil Aviation arrived in Tripoli yesterday for a five-day visit to consider lifting flight ban

Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority reported yesterday that the Director General of Italian Civil Aviation and his accompanying delegation, which includes several specialists in the field of aviation safety monitoring, arrived in Tripoli Sunday, March 2, 2025.

‎Lifting the EU flight ban?
The delegation’ visit, which took place in coordination with the European Commission, comes within the framework of reviewing and evaluating the results of the rehabilitation and efficiency raising plan implemented by the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority since 2022, and the extent to which it achieves the requirements and conditions for lifting the air ban on Libya imposed by the European Union Commission.‎

‎A comprehensive review will be conducted
During their visit, the Italian delegation will conduct a comprehensive review of the systems and legislation, the eligibility and efficiency of technical elements, work programmes, means of monitoring and auditing airlines, and to identify the effectiveness of the digital transformation system in monitoring and achieving aviation safety.‎

‎March Brussels meeting to review Libya’s readiness for flight resumption
The Libyan Civil Aviation Authority revealed that the European Commission is hosting at its headquarters in Brussels an important meeting with specialists in the Civil Aviation Authority during the month of March, aimed at discussing the corrective measures taken by the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority in response to the requirements of lifting the no-fly zone.

The meeting will decide whether these steps are sufficient to initiate the procedures for lifting the flight ban, and the report of the mission of the Italian team will be of particular importance during the next meeting of the European Commission on the Libyan file as the latest practical assessment by a competent European institution. ‎

‎The Libyan Civil Aviation Authority reported that before departure, the Italian visiting delegation will provide a special briefing to the Minister of Transport on the preliminary findings of its mission report.‎
