Libya has not witnessed any urban planning project since 2004: Aldabaiba

(GNU).

Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, conducted an inspection visit to the Urban Planning Authority with the aim of addressing the current poor lack of urban planning in the country.‎

‎During his visit, an extensive workshop was held that reviewed the urgent and tripartite plan prepared by the Urban Planning Authority, where the head of the Authority, Ahmed Al-Mukhtar, reviewed the measures taken regarding the preparation of the Authority’s development plan and the target timetable for the plan.‎

‎Short plan to address current urban conditions
The first axis of the workshop discussed the short plan to address the current urban conditions and address random construction, review the maps of 28 ‎‎brochures, and prepare technical specifications for cities and population centres. The target duration of the project for implementation ranges from 18 months.‎

‎Strategy for the urban development of Tripoli
The second axis also discussed the urban strategy for the development of the capital of Tripoli, where a visual presentation was made on the current situation, random growth, and the reasons for the shortcomings in the national plan and land uses according to the current situation.‎

‎The strategy reviewed the three dimensions on which it is based: national, regional and local.‎

In his speech, Aldabaiba explained that Libya has not witnessed any planning project since 2004 and will not delay in paying attention to urban planning and giving it priority in the development programme.‎

‎The Prime Minister stressed the need to coordinate with the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research to establish urban planning departments in engineering faculties, so that they can contribute to addressing the urban conditions in the country, stressing the need to adopt technical training programmes for the Authority’s employees to keep pace with the development plan targeted by the Authority in its development project.‎
