Libya Energy Summit is great support to enhance stability and investment environment: Aldabaiba

Making the keynote speech at the opening of the Libya Energy and Economic Summit 2024 at Tripoli’s Rixos Centre, Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba said his government sought to create important programmes to revive the national economy and solve the difficulties facing development in the field of oil and gas.

He said the electrical energy issue was a major challenge to his government who made efforts to stabilize the electrical network, which we see today as a reality (of the end of power cuts) touched by the citizen.

Aldabaiba said his government provided unlimited support to the oil and energy sector, developing the infrastructure of oil fields, and expanding exploration to contribute to supporting the national economy and doubling oil and gas production.

In the context of searching for alternative sources for generating clean energy, he said attention must be given to renewable energies that allow the use of solar energy technologies.

He referred to the launch of the National Strategy for Renewable Energies last December by his government.

The Summit
On the summit, he told the gathered ‘‘Your presence today is a great support for the government’s efforts to enhance stability and enhance the investment environment. This event encourages capital to invest in Libya, which is what we are working on through the ‘‘Return to Life’’ projects.

We wish success in making this summit a success, hoping that this event will be a platform for presenting the visions of participating delegations from international institutions, companies and national agencies’’.

NC7 Hamada field contract and Sharara field force majeure
Not surprisingly, Aldabaiba did not mention the NC7 Hamada field contract with a foreign consortium being stopped and under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office, nor the local demonstrators forcing the Sharara field to stop production and the National Oil Corporation declaring a force majeure at the field.

The event was also marked by the non-attendance of Libya’s main energy partners at the summit:

Italian Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, CEO of French Total Energies, CEO Patrick Pouyanné, and CEO of Italian Eni, CEO Claudio Descalzi.
