Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Minister of Health, Ramadan Abu Janah, participated in the signing ceremony Saturday of a cooperation protocol between Libya’s Emergency Medicine and Support Centre (EMSC) and UniCamillus, the International University of Health and Medical Science in Rome and Policlinico Luigi di Liegro general hospital in Rome.

The agreement entails for the training of 20 Libyan doctors in advanced surgery. The Italian embassy described the signing as a ‘‘Great step forward for scientific and medical exchanges between Italy and Libya.’’

Meanwhile, in his speech, Abu Janah emphasized the depth of the Libyan-Italian relations, and that joint international cooperation in the scientific fields is one of the important factors in the transfer of expertise and the development of science, and it is one of the pillars of development in modern countries.

Abu Janah explained that the ultimate goal of the government is to bring about comprehensive development in Libya, and its goal has been translated into its national project, the ‘‘return of life’’, in which it launched development and reconstruction projects in various fields.

The Acting Minister of Health indicated that the Ministry worked to reform the health sector, improve the level of treatment services, and raise the efficiency of medical personnel, and launched a programme to localize treatment at home, to transfer medical expertise and raise the efficiency of the treatment process as a whole, with its three elements, the treatment institution, the doctor, and the medical instrument.

Abu Janah praised the experience of the EMSC in localizing treatment, which it launched in late 2021, in response to the directives of the Ministry of Health, stressing that it was a successful and encouraging experience, in which the EMSC was able to achieve many positive results, whether at the level of treatment, or increasing the efficiency of medical personnel, or at the level of reducing medical expenses.
