The head of the Commercial Registry Authority, Muhammad bin Katheer, confirmed to Libyan media Wednesday that the start of work operation of the online Commercial Registry System within weeks.

Companies and contract notaries (notary public) will be able to obtain a ‘‘negative certificate’’ (the availability of) for trade names through the system. The system will also enable renewal and amendment procedures for companies, whether Libyan or foreign.

The online Commercial Registry System, part of the Economy and Trade Ministry, is part of the overall aim of the ministry and the Libyan government to digitise and digitalize information and procedures in the country.

Recently, various Libyan entities have been working with the EU funded Expertise France / EU4PSL / E-NABLE programmes to achieve a better economy, private sector and digitisation/digitalization. One outcome has been the Libyan eJraat portal (http://ejraat.gov.ly/).
