USAID and Pragma offer consultancy to HoR on electricity crisis

U.S. company, Pragma Corporation, an implementing arm of the USAID, is offering consultancy on Libya’s electricity crisis to the HoR (Logo: Social media).

London, 12 August 2021:

Aisha Al-Tabilgi, House of Representatives (HoR) member of the Energy and Natural Resources Committee and member of the Electricity File Follow-up Committee, conducted a virtual meeting yesterday with electricity experts of the American Pragma Corporation.

The HoR reported that Pragma are assigned to provide advisory support to resolve Libya’s electricity crisis with the support of the US Agency for Development (USAID).

During the meeting, the HoR reported that Al-Tabilgi stressed that the electricity crisis is not primarily in the provision of resources, but in the use of technical expertise in this field, which will allow the proper exploitation of those resources.

She reiterated that the HoR was keen to benefit from local and international experiences, noting that the electricity crisis is one of the most prominent crises facing the country and negatively affecting the life of citizens, and stressing the need to work quickly to develop effective solutions to it with the government.

In turn, the HoR reported that the electricity experts of the Pragma affirmed their keenness to work with the HoR, provide the required technical advice, and work in accordance with the recommendations of the plan proposed by the experts after an extensive study of the conditions of the electricity network and the reforms required to improve the electricity situation in the short and medium term.

The experts also stressed the importance of the role of the HoR in developing the necessary legislation to follow up on policies related to the production of electricity and what is related to it.

The HoR reported that it was agreed between the two sides to continue holding meetings for more coordination and cooperation.
