The Law Enforcement Department (under the General Administration for Security Operations) reported yesterday that, as part of efforts to tighten oversight on the transport of essential goods and food supplies, and to combat smuggling and practices that violate commercial regulations—acting under a directive from the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity—it apprehended 20 truck owners.

The truck owners are suspected of transporting essential food items, imported through financial letters of credit, without official documentation to verify the legitimacy or origin of their cargo.

The arrests were made during mobile security patrols conducted by the Department in the suburbs of Tripoli, the Jebel (mountain) region, and as far as the Shwerif area. These patrols were part of an intensified monitoring campaign across vital roads and routes to verify the legal documentation accompanying the transport of essential goods.

Necessary legal measures have been taken against the individuals detained. They, along with the relevant paperwork and documentation, have been referred to the Agency for Combating Financial Crimes, Money Laundering, and Terrorism Financing, while the trucks have been impounded by the Department.

These actions, the Department said, are part of broader efforts to strengthen control over the transport routes of essential goods, verify the legitimacy of their movement and intended destinations, and counter any practices aimed at circumventing legal regulations or undermining the stability of the local market.
