The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) reported today that its delegation conducted an official visit to Egypt to review the Egyptian experience in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and the electricity sector - and exchange expertise and experiences in these fields.
The visit included representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and a representative of the Libyan Audit Bureau, and in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
The delegation's programme included a series of visits and meetings with several Egyptian agencies, institutions, companies and projects, including the Egyptian Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy (MOERE), the Egyptian Electricity Holding Company (EEHC), the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company (EETC), the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA), the Electricity Utility and Consumer Protection Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA) and the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE).
During these visits, the delegation was briefed on the nature of the work of the host entities and institutions, their specializations, practical experiences, strategies and plans in the energy sector. The delegation was also presented with a set of introductory and visual presentations that dealt with work mechanisms, project development, management and operation, in addition to discussing technical and institutional experiences in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and connection to the electrical grid.
Work on concluding memorandums of cooperation
The meetings witnessed discussions on the prospects for cooperation between the Libyan side and the Egyptian sides, where it was agreed in principle to work on concluding memorandums of cooperation between the two sides, which would contribute to enhancing the exchange of expertise, technical knowledge and the field of training.
The Libyan delegation also visited the 500 kV S1 transformer station in the New Administrative Capital, in addition to renewable energy projects, including the Zaafarana 7 wind farm with a total capacity of about 120 megawatts, the solar station in Zafarana with a capacity of 50 megawatts, and the Amont wind station affiliated with AMEA Power in the Ras Gharib region with a capacity of 500 megawatts.
REAoL said this allowed the delegation to learn at close quarters about the stages of implementation and operation of solar and energy projects, wind, management, operation and maintenance mechanisms, and experiments used in benefiting from renewable energy sources and supporting the stability of the electricity system.
The factories of EGEMAC Company, which specializes in manufacturing prefabricated stations and electrical equipment, were also visited.
REAoL said the visit comes within the framework of its keenness to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences with specialized institutions and bodies, and to benefit from regional experiences in developing the renewable energy sector and raising the efficiency of the energy system, in a way that supports Libya’s efforts towards expanding the use of renewable energy sources and achieving its goals in the field of sustainable energy.
