The National Development Agency (NDA) and the Man-Made River Authority held a ceremony yesterday in the city of Sirte to mark the reactivation of the Qardabiya-Sadada section of the Man-Made River system. This milestone follows the completion of rehabilitation works overseen by the NDA—after the system had been out of service for over 13 years—to restore it to full operational status.
The rehabilitation process involved the procurement and installation of more than 250 valves to replace missing or damaged ones. These efforts spanned nearly a year and were followed by the refilling and operational testing of the system to ensure it was fully ready for service.
The ceremony featured the opening of the water inlet valve for the first phase, allowing it to connect with the water from the second phase. This integration enhances the synergy between the two systems and provides greater flexibility in water supply, particularly during maintenance and emergency situations.
The reactivation of the system, the NDA said, represents a significant step toward bolstering water security and protecting vital infrastructure; it stands as a tangible manifestation of the ongoing drive for construction, development, and public service.
