The Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Economy and Trade announced yesterday the release of the official mandatory vehicle insurance app on the Google Play Store.
The Ministry said this move marks a new step in advancing digital transformation within the insurance sector, enabling citizens to access the system’s services easily and securely via their smartphones.
The app serves as a practical tool that always keeps the insurance policy readily available to the holder. It allows for the instant verification of the electronic policy's authenticity by scanning a QR code, giving the policyholder a direct way to confirm that the document is registered and approved within the official system.
Reducing risks of unauthorized documents
This Ministry said this service is significant as it offers citizens a higher level of confidence and protection, allowing them to personally verify the policy's validity before relying on it. This reduces the risks associated with unauthorized documents and ensures easy access to official data when needed—particularly for compensation claims or traffic accident-related procedures.
Streamlining procedures and enhance user experience
The app also offers a range of digital services, including viewing saved policies, calculating insurance premiums based on vehicle type and coverage duration, and receiving alerts regarding upcoming policy expirations—all of which help streamline procedures and enhance the user experience.
Improved processing, verification and oversight
For relevant authorities, the app enables direct verification of insurance policies, thereby accelerating procedural completion, improving the efficiency of electronic monitoring and oversight, and supporting integration among the concerned entities.
Continuation of development of mandatory vehicle insurance system
The launch of this application, the Ministry added, marks a continuation of the development of the mandatory vehicle insurance system—an initiative launched by it and implemented by the Economic Information and Documentation Centre.
Over 193,000 e-insurance policies issued so far
The Ministry revealed that to date, the number of active policies has exceeded 193,000, with 61,557 policies issued this month alone—a 15.9% increase compared to the same period last month. This growth, it said, reflects the rising demand for, and reliance on, the digital services provided by the system.
Policyholders can now verify the validity of their insurance policies in seconds via their mobile phones, eliminating the need for paperwork or additional administrative steps.
