The Sirte based, and Hafter controlled, National Development Authority (NDA), announced yesterday that Sebha airport will be closed until the end of April for urgent runway maintenance.
This work includes repairing and repainting damaged sections of the runway to increase its efficiency and enhance its operational readiness.
The NDA says this work coincides with the imminent opening of the new Sebha airport terminal in the second half of April, as part of a comprehensive vision aimed at developing the airport and improving the level of services provided to passengers.
The work is being carried out at an accelerated pace, around the clock, with a continuous commitment to completing the project according to the highest standards and equipping the airport to better serve citizens efficiently and effectively, it added.
The NDA expects flights for the Hajj pilgrims in Saudi Arabia from the southern region will depart via Sebha Airport in May on schedule, reflecting the readiness of this vital facility to serve the public and facilitate travel.
