The National Development Agency (NDA) announced today that its Director, Mahmoud Al-Farjani, signed the contract for the implementation of the Sirte Fuel Depot project. The NDA did name the contractor, but photos reveal that it is Turkish company DEHA TECH.
The project is part of a package of strategic projects announced last week within a vision aimed at strengthening energy security, developing infrastructure, and addressing service challenges across the country.
The NDA said the project, signed in the presence of the eastern-based Libyan Minister of Industry, Mohammed Al-Saidi, is one of the largest fuel sector projects in Libya. It aims to provide a radical and sustainable solution to the fuel crisis in the central and southern regions by establishing a modern depot that will increase storage capacity and secure a strategic reserve of fuel. It said this will alleviate the suffering of citizens, reduce recurring shortages and congestion at fuel stations, and support transportation, economic, commercial, and service activities.
The NDA said the project includes the construction of modern storage facilities for gasoline and diesel, built to international standards, along with an integrated system for receiving, storing, pumping, and distributing fuel, all in accordance with approved technical specifications. The gasoline and diesel storage facilities are scheduled for completion within 12 months, and the entire project is expected to be finished within 14 months.
The NDA said this project is an extension of its approach to implementing strategic projects that have a direct impact on citizens' lives, thereby enhancing energy security, improving infrastructure efficiency, supporting sustainable development efforts, and establishing Sirte as a pivotal logistics hub serving various regions of Libya.
