The Greek Consulate in Benghazi was reopened last Sunday (29 March), in the presence of the Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee, Youssef Al-Agouri and the Greek Foreign Minister, George Gerapetritis.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee, accompanied by the Greek Foreign Minister toured the consulate and reviewed the facilities and services it will provide following its reopening.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee held a meeting with the Greek Foreign Minister on the sidelines of the consulate’s reopening ceremony. The meeting emphasized the deep historical ties between the two countries.
The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs Committee reiterated the House’s commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and coordinating efforts to address shared challenges, most notably the influx of illegal immigrants across the Mediterranean Sea.
For his part, the Greek Foreign Minister affirmed his country’s commitment to supporting the stability and unity of Libya, and to backing the just causes of the Libyan people, in addition to the importance of strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, the eastern based Libyan state News Agency, LANA reported.
