Following a series of intensive technical meetings held on the sidelines of the CERAWeek 2026 global energy conference in Houston, AGOCO reported last Saturday (28 March) that Chairman, Mohamed Ben Shatwan, explained that the company is actively working to enhance its production capacity by bringing in the latest US technological innovations.
Bringing new competition to the Libyan market
AGOCO is also seeking to bring new international competitors into the Libyan market, especially companies specializing in technical services and innovative solutions. He noted that extensive discussions were held with leading global companies such as Merger, Petro-Biul, and H.K.M. to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in developing oil fields.
American EOR companies
The technical discussions focused on the application of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) techniques, for which the American oil industry is renowned. These techniques include gas injection, water injection, and chemical injection, which directly contribute to increasing well efficiency and extending their productive lifespan. The discussions also covered solutions to address complex operational challenges, such as treating scale and blockages that impede crude oil flow within wells.
Utilising wastewater
On the environmental and strategic front, the AGOCO Chairman emphasized the company’s interest in production water treatment technology. He noted promising opportunities for converting oil and gas production wastewater into water suitable for irrigation and other uses, representing a significant shift in water resource utilization and improving the environmental performance of oil operations in Libya.
AGOCO initiatives open broad prospects for foreign investment
Ben Shatwan concluded that these initiatives open broad prospects for foreign investment in the Libyan oil sector and support the country’s strategy to increase daily production rates by localizing modern technologies and reducing operating costs through fair technical competition.
