A specialized paediatric oncology medical team from the Istituto Giannina Gaslini Hospital in Genoa, Italy has begun a field visit to Libya’s National Cancer Institute in Misrata.
Led by WHO, the field visit began last Monday (7 April) as part of ongoing efforts to support and improve children cancer treatment services in Libya.
This visit is supported by WHO, in collaboration with Libya’s National Cancer Control Authority, and comes as part of the project to improve services for children with cancer in Libya, funded by the National Oil Corporation and its International partners.
Dr. Taha Emhamed, Noncommunicable Diseases Officer at the WHO Libya office, stated: “The visit includes field tours of the children’s oncology department and aims—over the course of the scheduled five days—to develop training plans and activate joint cooperation programmes focused on qualifying and developing the medical and support staff working in the department, with direct support and coordination from WHO.”
