The Attorney General’s Office reported today that the Tripoli based Minister of Education has been imprisoned for three years and six months for corrupt contracting procedures for the printing and supply of schoolbooks
He was also fined 1,000 dinars and deprived of his civil rights for the duration of the sentence and for a year following its execution.
The Attorney General’s Office said the Public Prosecution had filed a public lawsuit against the Tripoli based Minister of Education, after proving his violation of the principle of equality and his practice of mediation and favouritism in managing contracting procedures for the printing and supply of schoolbooks.
The Tripoli Court of Appeal had initially ruled that the lawsuit was inadmissible, as it was not considered due to the failure to obtain permission to file it.
The Public Prosecution appealed this ruling, and its reasons were accepted by the Supreme Court, which ruled to accept the appeal in form and, in substance, to overturn the appealed ruling and return the case to the Tripoli Court of Appeal for reconsideration by a different panel.
After completing its investigation into the retried case, the Tripoli Court of Appeal ruled in its final session to convict the accused.
