Libya’s state National Oil Corporation reported yesterday that Sirte Oil and Gas Company has completed drilling operations at the horizontal development well J5-H in the Matkhandoush field.
This project was implemented based on a precise geomechanical study targeting the Mamouniyat reservoir with geological structure (J). The reservoir rocks were analysed and areas containing open natural fractures (Critical Stressed Fractures) were identified. This enabled the well path to be designed to penetrate 700 feet in areas of high permeability, ensuring optimal crude oil flow.
Preliminary tests demonstrated the well’s outstanding production capacity, with a flow rate of 5,400 barrels per day using an electric submersible pump and 6,000 barrels per day (bpd) on natural flow, with a wellhead pressure of 110 psi.
By adding these quantities to the current production, the production capacity of the Matkhandoush field will increase to 10,000 bpd, enhancing the company’s contribution to achieving its strategic objectives and plans to increase production.
The NOC said this achievement is an important step toward enhancing production capacity and achieving its 2025 targets as part of its strategy to develop oil fields and increase production rates.
