Italian company Morvran Air Link will launch new emergency medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) services using a new aircraft with significantly reduced operating costs.

The company says the project is part of the healthcare collaboration between Europe and Libya.

The twin-engine aircraft, built entirely in Italy by Tecnam, can transport a patient and their medical equipment, in 5 hours of flight time, over a distance from 1,500 to 1,700 km.

The patient, the medical team, and their family can all travel on board. The MEDEVAC configuration includes a stretcher for the patient and four seats for the assistance. In passenger configuration, the aircraft can accommodate up to 9 passengers.

Piloted by a single captain, the company claims the aircraft’s operating costs are around € 600 per hour - 60 to 70% lower than those of its more prestigious competitors.

The company says it is also available in STOL (Short Take-Off and Landing) configuration, allowing it to take off and land on very short runways, thus connecting even the most remote villages, with their short and sometimes imperfect airstrips, to the main hospital.

The company says the project will connect the most isolated localities in Libya to Tripoli.

With a range of over 1,500 km, Libyan patients can be quickly transferred to major European hospitals for complex and specialized procedures and treatments.
