Efforts to increase trade between Indonesia and Libya

The Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli organized a business meeting at a leading Tripoli hotel last Sunday with several Libyan businessmen dealing with the Indonesian market. The meeting was in the presence of Didi Rifai Ahmed, the Indonesian Chargé d’affaires, and Anwar Abu Sitta, President of the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce.

In an exclusive interview with Libya Herald, Chargé d’affaires Didi Rifai said that this meeting was organised to talk about commercial opportunities available and increasing mutual benefits to enhance economic cooperation between Indonesia and Libya.

He expressed his deep gratitude to Libyan businessmen for their participation and stressed the importance of the great and enormous opportunities available for doing business with Indonesia, a country with 275 million consumers and offering a diverse range of products and services from basic to high-tech industries.

International standards Halal products
The Chargé d’affaires highlighted the advantages of dealing with Indonesia, noting the availability of high-quality halal products, competitive prices for exports adhering to US, EU and UK standards, and the efficiency of direct trade routes that bypass intermediaries in other countries.

Invites Libyan businessmen to attend trade events
He confirmed that his country’s government is interested in raising the level of trade cooperation with Libya and welcomes Libyan companies and business travellers to attend the economic activities organized in Indonesia.

Specifically, he invited them to attend the Halal Indonesia Jakarta Exhibition from 30 August to 1 September 1, 2024; The Second Indonesian African Forum in Bali 1-3 September 2024, as well as the 39th Indonesia Trade Fair from 9 to 12 October 2024, each of which offers invaluable opportunities for business cooperation between the two countries.

The Indonesian Chargé d’affaires reported to Libya Herald that the Community Development Authority in Indonesia sent a special invitation to all business leaders in Libya to attend the three major economic events in Indonesia, stressing the support provided by the Indonesian Embassy in Tripoli to facilitate their participation in all economic and commercial activities held in Indonesia throughout the year.

Libyan trade delegation to visit Indonesia
For his part, Anwar Abu Sitta, President of Tripoli Chamber of Commerce, revealed that there is coordination between the Chamber and the Indonesian Embassy to organize a Libyan trade delegation to attend several exhibitions and international economic forums in Indonesia.

Canning and fish processing
The trade delegation aims to benefit from industrial experiences and to cooperate in the field of technology transfer, especially in the field of canning and processing fish, as Indonesian companies are considered pioneers in this field. It also looks to benefit from the opportunities available in several industrial fields that the Libyan private sector can benefit from and investment cooperation with potential partners from Indonesia.

Libyan consumers’ acceptance of Indonesian products
Abu Sitta stressed the importance of the Libyan market for Indonesian manufacturing companies, as well as the interest of Libyan investors and traders to increase the volume of cooperation with Indonesian companies that have a presence in the global market and compete with well-known international companies in several fields. These include the food industries, rubber industry, construction materials, and furniture sectors. He pointed out that Libyan consumers accept Indonesian products due to their high competitiveness in terms of quality and price.

Special direct chartered flights to and from Jakarta next October
It is noteworthy that the Indonesian embassy pointed out the plan to organise direct flights between Tripoli and Jakarta next October on board a Ghadames Airlines aircraft, with special facilities being provided to attend economic forums and exhibitions in Indonesia.
