The Acting Minister of Economy and Trade, Suhail Boushiha, met with Alicia Varela, Director General for Trade and Investment of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce yesterday. Varela had been leading a Spanish business delegation to Tripoli between 19 and 20 June.
The meeting, which comes within the framework of enhancing trade exchange and the return of Spanish companies to work in Libya, was held at the Economy and Trade Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters, in the presence of the Ambassador of Spain to Libya, the directors of the Department of Foreign Trade and International Cooperation, the Companies and Commercial Registrations Department at the Ministry’s office, and several Spanish company owners.
During the meeting, the Acting Minister indicated the exemption of Spanish companies from previous fees while they stopped working in Libya as an encouragement for the return of Spanish companies. He stressed the stability that Libya is witnessing under the current government which provides investment opportunities in all fields, especially construction, renewable energy and infrastructure.
He highlighted the Libyan investment law, which he said enjoys flexibility and offers advantages to attract foreign investment.
Meanwhile, according to the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Director Varela stressed the desire of Spanish companies to strengthen trade relations with the private sector in Libya.
The Acting Minister urged the Spanish side to conclude a partnership with the local private sector and organize joint economic activities from the two countries, stressing the need to provide all facilities by Spain to Libyan businessmen wishing to invest in Spain.
