The Technical Committee of Libya’s Tripoli Ministry of Interior confirmed Wednesday the readiness of the components operating at the Ghadames-Debdeb / Libyan-Algerian border crossing to open the crossing, each according to its competence.

In a meeting held Tuesday, Libya’s state news agency, LANA, reported, the committee discussed the mechanism of communication with the Algerian side to open the crossing for commercial exchange and resume the movement of entry and exit of citizens between the two countries.

The committee suggested holding an initial meeting from the Algerian side in the coming days to assess readiness, in the presence of several ministries, as well as the mayor of Ghadames and the Food and Drug Control Centre.

It will be recalled that Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Hwej, had announced last May, during his visit to Algeria, the establishment of a free trade zone between the two countries.

The news confirms what the mayor of Ghadames Municipality, Gasim Al-Manaa, stated earlier that the crossing was ready as far as the Libyan side was concerned.
