The breakaway Tripoli House of Representatives (HoR), meeting in Tripoli yesterday, affirmed its readiness to hold a reunified quorate HoR session in any Libyan city, provided that it is free of mercenaries and foreign forces. It also insisted the session takes place in the presence of local and international observers in accordance with HoR internal regulations.
Meeting and voting virtually?
The Tripoli HoR announced the commitment of its members to respond positively to granting confidence to the designated Government of National Unity (GNU) in all possible ways, including through electronic means (such as Zoom), in the event that the HoR could not meet within the specified time.
UN report on alleged LPDF bribery?
The breakaway HoR called on the UN Security Council to expedite the dissemination of information about what was mentioned in the report of its Committee of Experts that some members of the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) received bribes, and the need to publish the report and all its annexes, or to refer it to the Council in order to promote the principle of transparency, integrity and safety procedures.
Meritocracy v geographical quotas?
The Tripoli HoR also called upon the head of the GNU, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, to adhere to the criteria for holding senior positions in accordance with Libyan legislation that is based on ability, efficiency and honesty, taking into account geographical distribution that strengthens the country’s unity and achieves stability.
It also expressed its hope that the outcomes of the LPDF would contribute to unifying state institutions, ending the state of division, and conducting comprehensive national reconciliation on the basis of achieving justice, reparation for harm and the return of the displaced and displaced, and holding the perpetrators accountable and revealing the facts of mass graves.
