(Tripoli MoH).

London, 17 April 2020:

The Tripoli Ministry of Health yesterday condemned the ‘‘systematic and repeated attacks on civilian residential neighbourhoods in Tripoli, which have caused the loss of innocent lives, the displacement of citizens and the destruction of homes’’.

The latest of these attacks, it reported, was on innocent lives in a house Trig il Soor Road in Tripoli on the night of 15 April 2020, which caused the death of a 5-year child, the serious injury of the mother and three children from the same family.

It also reported that on the same day the targeting of homes in the municipality of Abu Sleem which caused the death of a woman and injured others. On Thursday it reported bombing in various neighbourhoods in the capital, leading to the death of a medic, Dr. Moneim Abdel-Aboghfa in the Area of Ain.

The Ministry of Health stressed the seriousness of these acts, considered to be a violation of human rights, a desecration of blood and war crimes in accordance with domestic and international humanitarian law, and called on the government to act to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Meanwhile, the indiscriminate bombing has continued to land on civilian areas today with unconfirmed reports of deaths and injuries in the areas of Kremia, Sug il Juma, Treeg il Shoak, and Ain Zara.

The Tripoli authorities attribute the bombing to the Khalifa Hafter-led Libyan National Army (LNA) and aligned forces. Residents report an increase in bombs landing in Tripoli since the loss of the greater areas of Sabratha and Sorman by the LNA on Monday to the forces defending Tripoli.

The fighting over Tripoli continues despite calls by the international community for a pause in order to concentrate on fighting the Coronavirus pandemic. In a report released on Monday, the UN Libya Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that if Libya is to have any chance against COVID-19, the ongoing conflict and attacks on critical civilian infrastructure must come to an immediate halt.

Libya’s oil stoppage is also still ongoing since January.
